Like having the world’s best recipe book in your pocket!
You would be surprised that it has taken Allrecipes.com this long to create a mobile version of it’s website. But when metrics revealed the future of our traffic is going to be a majority of mobile just in a number of years, it was a clear call to make a mobile friendly version.Over the past few years, mobile web usage has considerably increased to the point that companies can no longer afford to ignore it.
Taking a dive into responsive web design where content can be viewed seamlessly across multiple devices and form factors is the number objective to create m.allrecipes.com (best viewed on a mobile device). The mobile web reintroduces several issues that have been largely ignored in recent years. First, even with 4G networks, bandwidth becomes a serious issue for mobile consumers, so small graphic sizes and no splash screens are a necessity. Which isn’t the case when designing mobile applications. Combine these issues with cross-platform compatibility problems, and it isn’t hard to see how mobile development is a lot like ‘stepping backwards in time’. Even with these limitations allrecipes.com mobile website is still a perfect companion for checking shopping lists or browsing recipes on the go!

The bulk of my work right now revolves around this little beauty pictured above called Dinner Spinner. Dinner Spinner comes in two flavors Dinner Spinner Free and Dinner Spinner Pro. With over 11 Million downloads between all of the Allrecipes mobile products it keeps me pretty busy. The basic concept of the app is that you can select dish type, ingredients, and ready in and the spinner will randomize recipes by these three categories. In addition to the spinner the app has a featured section, favorites, search, shopping list, and settings. The app itself has over 40,000 top rated recipes all submitted by users. You can upload photos of recipes or share them with friends. Dinner Spinner is available on iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone 7. We have just ported it over to work on Android tablets and the Kindle Fire.
The search section has a number of dietary filters including: vegetation, vegan, no dairy, no wheat, high fiber, low fat, low sodium, and low carbs. So you can easily find low fat, low sodium chicken recipes in seconds.

Fresh * Seasonal * Delicious
Taste of Home In Season is a free application that is available on iPhone, iPad, and Android. My initial though was wouldn’t it be great if a user could automatically get recipes based on what’s in season to their location? In Season does just that. Select your state and this app will automatically tell you what’s in season for this time of year and your location and feed a list of great recipes. Taste of Home is a leading food magazine and website with a large customer base.
In addition to what’s in season you can also browse by collection. Collections are a group of recipes that relevant to the time of year you are in. Father’s Day recipes, 4th of July, Get Grilling, and Taste of Summer are all currently available. Collection will be added throughout the year. We also added a number of search filters. Need to make a chicken dish in less than 20 minutes? Do you have special dietary needs? No problem this app will search all the recipes.
Taste of Home In Season is available for free down in iTunes Link or in the Android Market.

Get the latest buzz
Social Buzz is the app to keep all your social networks in one place. This app keeps you plugged into Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. You can see the latest updates, check your messages, post comments, message, and upload photos. Follow status updates as they happen and see new photos, tweets and posts on the fly. Plus, you can respond instantly with comments, messages, @replies and more. Social Buzz comes already preloaded on select T-mobile phones.
The idea is to bring your favorite social networks into a single place rather than all these separate apps taking up precious space on your phone memory. In addition to the android version there is also a windows 7 version.

Get FREE on-the-go access to your T-Mobile account!
MyAccount was the first mobile application I designed when the first android phone was available on T-mobile’s network back in 2009. At T-mobile I was directly responsible for the visual and UI design of MyAccount, a mobile application to help T-mobile user manage the details of their own accounts. It’s features included:
• View voice minutes, messages, and data used and remaining.
• If you are on a Family plan, check usage for all lines on your account.
• See bill amount, due date and details.
• Pay your monthly bill from your phone and view payment history.
• View your plan details and add or change services.
• Track events such as plan changes, billing activities, handset order status and more.
• Set Alert notifications for minute usage, bill due date and more.
• Get quick access to Device tools such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, screen brightness settings and more.
• Access support information and troubleshooting tools—tap ‘Menu’ button on your device, and then select “My Device”.
It was T-mobile first mobile app ever created and I was honored to be on it’s team. MyAccount remained the number one downloaded application in the Android Marketplace for over a year and the application was directly responsible for reducing calls to customer care and increased sales of Callertunes by 300%. At the time MyAccount had an install base of over 3 million active users.
